The Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of Polish Academy of Sciences in Olsztyn, Poland is looking for three PhD students. The PhD students will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Prof. Carsten Carlberg with the goal to investigate the effect of vitamin D and other nutritional compounds on changes of the epigenome and transcriptome of tissues and cell types of healthy and (pre)diseased individuals.

Professor Carlberg has expertise, projects and interests in gene regulation, epigenetics and vitamin D in the context of nutrigenomics, immunology and cancer.

Two PhD student positions are open for „Bioinformaticians” (or large scale data analysts, programmers) the third one for “wet lab” specialist.

Qualification requirements:

In order to meet the general entry requirements, the applicant must have completed a second-cycle degree, completed courses equivalent to at least 240 higher education credits, of which 60 credits must be in the second cycle, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in EU or elsewhere.
The qualification requirements must be met by the deadline for application.

Desired qualifications for „Bioinformatic” PhD student:

  • A master degree in:
    • Bioinformatics
    • Computer Science with some knowledge in bioscience
    • Biosciences (Biology/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology) with Bioinformatics/ Statistics and/or Computer Sciences
  • Knowledge in molecular biology particularly RNA-seq, ATAC-seq and/or ChIP-seq
  • Experience with analysis of high-throughput 'omics data

Desired qualifications for „Wet lab” PhD student:

  • A master degree in:
    • Biosciences (Biology/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology) with some knowledge in computer science/ bioinformatics
  • Experience in molecular biology
  • Experience with analysis of high-throughput 'omics data

Additional skills:

  • High motivation to work in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with the multidisciplinary cohort of researchers;
  • Proactive, motivated, showing initiative;
  • Good work organization;
  • Fluency in English in writing and speaking;
  • Good writing and presentation skills;
  • Fluency in English in writing and speaking (proven by one the listed certificates).
