Achievements PoMD

  1. Participation in the development of simple and accurate method of assessing insulin sensitivity, FLAIS (Fasting Laboratory Assessment of Insulin Sensitivity), which allows to identify insulin resistance even in the population without overt metabolic disturbances.
  2. Demonstration of altered adipose tissue and skeletal muscle expression of thyroid hormone-related genes in obesity, which indicates a decreased tissue thyroid hormone action.
  3. Demonstration that transcription faction RUNX1 in skeletal muscle is associated with insulin sensitivity mainly through its effect on myogenesis. These data indicate that myogenic/regenerative potential of adult skeletal muscle may be an important determinant of insulin action.
  4. Demonstration weight loss in subjects with uncomplicated obesity is not associated with a reduction in adipose tissue inflammation, but excessive lipolysis may prevent an improvement in insulin sensitivity during weight loss.
