3D food printers, mobile polyphenol tests for fruits and juices, innovative food preservation methods and the afterlife of food waste. On October 4th, popular science EIT Food #AnnualFoodAgenda showroom called „Food open to the world” will take place during the „Transition Festival” at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw.

According to the experts, alimentation of the world’s population in 2050, around 9 billion people, will be possible only if the food production increases by at least 35%, and the scale of food waste is reduced significantly. Currently, in the EU alone, 20% of food produced is wasted yearly, what equates to 173 kilograms of food waste per person each year. More often, we start to hear about the need of implementing „sustainable” production, consumption and utilization of food.

As a part of the EIT Food #Annual Food Agenda project, researchers from the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Olsztyn, together with experts from the MASPEX company and agri-food innovators, will bring us closer to the latest scientific and technological achievements that lead to the production of healthy, safe, nutritious food, with minimal losses of raw materials and a limited environmental imprint. Waiting for us in the EIT Food showroom, there will be 3D food printers, mobile polyphenol tests for fruits and juices, as well as an intelligent plant lighting system that allows you to produce vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers throughout the year. We will take a closer look at the natural and functional food products, as well as plant-based proteins, which are an alternative to animal and soy proteins. During ’hands-on’ workshops and demonstrations, we will learn about innovative food preservation methods and food products with a 30-year long expiration date. Our guests will also get familiarized with personalized foodstuffs dedicated to people suffering from diet-related diseases and check the unique nutritional value of some „waste” from the food production. Last but not least, everyone will take part in „zero waste” games and explore the „food sharing” concept.

We welcome you to join us on October 4th, 2019, between the hours of 11:00 and 18:00 at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw. Free entry.
