200 researchers, 12 hours of experimenting together and several thousands of guests who think science matters. The next, 4th edition, of European Researchers’ Night organised by the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research PAS has just concluded.
Institute PAS in Olsztyn was one of the two scientific institutions that coordinated in Poland this most important science edutaining event of Europe. Researchers’ Night is held within the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and this year was celebrated in over 300 European countries.
Through a vast array of experiments, science shows and workshops researchers advocated a crucial role of science in our everyday life, dispelling negative stereotypes around research work, and building mutual trust with the society at large. Everyone could find first-hand answers to the questions concerning health, nutrition, technology or engineering. Institute invited Night’s guests to visit usually inaccessible laboratories offering experiments with invisible ink, workshops on criminology, microbiology and methods of assessing prohealth value of everyday food products. We could also enjoy in the game called „Escape the Lab”, solve scientific puzzles and trick a „looney researcher”. What is more, participants of the Night observed the market of microscopic curiosities, took part in the Doppler’s test, designed their own natural cosmetics with lyophilised fruits, and built jelly DNA or puffy bacteria.
The evening abounded with meeting with interesting guests – one and only Polish astronaut in the space and travelers running a very successful videoblog.
The European Researchers’ Night in Olsztyn was honoured with the patronage of i.a. the Polish Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Science and Higher Education and President of Olsztyn.
