1.3 billion tons worldwide, 88 million tons in the European Union, 9 million tons in Poland – this is the amount of food that goes to the garbage every year. We waste food en masse and thoughtlessly. We the consumers have the most on our conscience, but we can change it! Let’s start from the kitchen! On October 17 and 18, the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Food Bank in Olsztyn invite you to an intergenerational culinary workshops, during which we will learn how to cook healthy and in accordance with the zero waste movement.

The workshops will be held as a part of World Food Day celebration of the EIT Food #AnnualFoodAgenda project, which main assumptions are to improve eating habits and consumer attitudes towards food management in Europe.

Intergenerational culinary workshops will be an opportunity for whole families, groups of friends, but also individuals, to learn how to prepare dishes that have a good impact on both, our health and environment, under the supervision of chefs and nutritionists. In the professional workshop kitchen of the Kuźnia Społeczna, the participants will learn new recipes and new cooking techniques, but they will also exchange experiences and inspire each other. During the workshop „Traditional Polish dishes in a healthy plant version” we will find out how and what to replace meat with, which products are rich in protein and which of them contain the right amount of vitamins and minerals. The results of the workshop will include plant-based alternatives to traditional polish dishes. „Dairy-free diet: the secrets of vegetarian dairy products” is a workshop for everyone who must or want to look for alternatives to dairy products in their diet. We will learn how to prepare plant-based cheese or sour cream, regarding creaminess and texture of these products. Last but not least „Kitchen with no stereotypes” is a workshop dedicated to potato desserts, groats bars and other vegan, healthy and delicious sweets. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to win prizes that will help them implement the idea of „zero waste” into their lives.

The day before the intergenerational culinary workshops, on October 16, Kuźnia will be visited by school groups, for which there will be scientific demonstrations, lectures and practical classes „How can you reduce waste when cooking?”.

Participation in the workshops is free, but prior registration is required.
