In Wierzba we have just concluded the II edition of Scientific Symposium „Perspectives in conservation biology”.

The Symposium was organised by: Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research PAS in Olsztyn, PAS Division in Olsztyn and Białystok head quartered in Olsztyn, Research Station on Popielno and Leading National Science Centre KNOW.

The Honorary Patronage was held by the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Polish Hunting Association in Elbląg, Suwałki and Olsztyn, Polish Horse Breeders Association, as well as the Mayor of Ruciane-Nida.

Thematic scope of the Symposium was focused on the issues of:

  • management of wildlife populations,
  • achievements in reserve and stud breeding of Polish konik horses,
  • influence of the environment on the physiological processes and genome of wildlife,
  • factors determining the effectiveness of galliformes restitution.

The event hosted 2 plenary speeches, 33 lectures within 4 thematic sessions, and a poster seesion. Over 90 people attended, representing various stakeholders, both scientists, policy makers and members of State Forests.

Judging by the favourable opinions of the participants, we will undertake efforts to organize the next edition of the Symposium next year.
